Rear Projection Televisions and Rear Projection HDTV Reviews, Providers, and Parts
Rear Projection Televisions have been at the forefront of large screen televisions since large screen televisions came onto the home entertainment scene. A rear projection television is similar to a home theater projector in that an image is projected onto the screen of the television. These types of televisions can achieve awesome sizes even past 100 inches. Rear Projection HDTV's, which utilize the high image quality of high definition television, have recently become very popular and use LCD and DLP technologies to project a high definition image onto the screen of the television. Although most RPTVs have flat screens, these televisions are usually much more bulky and heavy than an LCD or Plasma screen television. They usually are mounted on the floor but can also be mounted atop of a stand, which puts the viewing screen at eye level. Recent technology has definitely reduced the overall box to screen size ratio, so rear projector televisions are not as bulky as large analog CRT televisions. When considering a rear projection TV for your home theater, consider your needs on screen size, use requirements, image source, and space available. Large screen sizes can be expensive and increase the size of the television in height, width, and depth. Rear projection televisions also use a projector similar to a digital video projector, so keep this in mind if you will be using your television for extended periods of time. Your rear projection lamp, bulbs, screen, or lens may need replacement throughout your television's lifetime. Also keep in mind that High Definition televisions require high definition data sources in order to perform to their maximum capability. Most rear projection HDTV's will include an HD cable attachment as well as HD DVD or Blue ray Disk connectivity. Rear projection televisions come in one of four formats: cathode ray tube (CRT), digital light processing (DLP), liquid crystal on silicon (LCOS), and liquid crystal display (LCD). Arguably, LCD has the best picture of the four, and is the only one of the four available in flat panel models. Here's a list of answers to some of the more frequent LCD questions.
