Shingle Style House Plans
Shingle style homes originated in New England in the 1880’s and were designed as a variation on the Queen Anne style during the Victorian era. Most often associated with seaside settings, shingle style homes regularly include sprawling covered porches and an abundance of windows to ensure one’s interaction with the Great Outdoors, whether outside or inside the home. The look eventually intermingled with the Craftsman style and serves to enhance the natural “solidity” of those designs. With its combination of refined design elements, tempered by rough textures and a passion for its natural surroundings, the shingle style home often communicates an aura of “casual grace.”
