A: Good Morning, The stairs will be converted into a closet that will hold the washer and dryer. The furnace and water heater will be located in the attic per general contractor.
A: Basements provide the easiest access to plumbing lines for maintenance and future improvements. I would rate crawl space second because of the potential for freezing pipes in northern climates and the inherent access difficulties. Slab foundations are the least expensive to construct but also the least flexible when it comes to repairs and/or improvements. With proper insulation, all three foundation types will provide comfortable floors. Aesthetics involve personal preferences. A slab foundation allows the floor level to be only 8” above the ground on all four elevations, whereas both the crawl and basement foundations require the floor to be at least one and a half feet above the ground in the front elevation and approximately three feet above the ground on one or two of the other elevations to allow vents and access to the crawl space or windows for ventilation and natural light in the case of a basement foundations.
