Colonial House Plans
The inspiration behind colonial style house plans goes back hundreds of years before the dawn of the United States of America. Among its notable characteristics, the typical colonial house plan has a temple-like entrance, center entry-hall and fireplaces or chimneys.
These houses borrow heavily from European culture, and they consist of two to three stories with gable roofs and symmetrical brick or wood facades. The kitchen and living room are on the first floor, while the bedrooms are on the second and third floors. Due to the conspicuous floor plan, colonial houses have remained quite popular with homeowners who prefer classic European architecture.
