Q:Is the roof able to support a recreational deck?
A:Prefabricated roof trusses are specified on the plans for the roof assembly. The selected truss manufacturer will need to design the trusses to accept floor rather than roof loads in order to meet building code requirements. Header beams may need to be modified also to accommodate floor loads.
Q:Can you tell me more about the roof? I know it's a flat roof so how does the drainage work? Will there be scuppers? I'm assuming the roof will have a surrounding parapet? I would like to understand that portion of the plan in a little more detail.
A:The roof has a surrounding parapet, and the roof structure slopes at ¼” per foot for drainage which is built into the prefabricated trusses. Rainwater is diverted to scuppers by raised “crickets”. The RV garage slopes to rear scuppers. The Workshop and Rec Room area slopes to scuppers on the left side.
